As a single mother and fully trainer barrister, I know it’s becoming more and more difficult for women to gain the legal advice and support they so desperately need. I want to set up a website where single mothers can access free legal guidance and practical advice about how to deal with difficult decisions as a lone parent.
From personal experience I know that when families breakdown or when women are left to raise their children alone, they are usually under enormous emotional and financial strain. At the same time they must make life-changing decisions relating to their children or their living circumstances. Many single mothers have no option but to make important decisions, which are often very difficult or impossible to reverse, at times when they are immensely vulnerable. In my experience, the majority of women feel absolutely desperate.
I hope to set up a website with the women’s charity, Cheer Trust, which will offer specialist legal advice to single mothers when they would otherwise have none. It will provide them with vital information about the reality of their legal position so that they can make the best decisions possible for themselves and their children.
I believe it’s a woman’s right to be able to share the huge responsibility for the decisions they have to take alone, often not out of their own choice. This website will help to ease that burden and will empower women to make the right decision for better lives for themselves and their children.
